With the full support of UNESCO Global Geoparks Secretariat and Global Geoparks Network, as well as Asia Pacific Geoparks Network, the International Training Course on UNESCO Global Geoparks has been successfully operated since 2016 by China University of Geosciences (Beijing) with the collaboration of UNESCO Global Geoparks in China. The last seven sessions of the course took place successively in Yanqing, Fangshan, Taishan, Songshan, Yimengshan, Zhangye, and Xiangxi UGGps, starting with just field lectures and then both indoor and field lectures. Such a collaboration has not only facilitated the operation of the course, but also significantly increased the visibility of these geoparks and strengthened the managing ability of geopark teams. This training course has become an important mechanism of capacity building for UNESCO Global Geoparks.
The 9th International Training Course on UNESCO Global Geoparks with the theme of Management, Activities and Networking will be held from 09 to 15 October 2025, in Yunyang UNESCO Global Geopark, a new member of the GGN, with the strong support of the Forestry Bureau of Chongqing City and the Government of Yunyang County, Chongqing.
The lecturers of this course are top international geopark experts and experienced geopark managers from UNESCO Global
Geoparks Council, Global Geoparks Network Executive Board, academic institutions and Global Geoparks. They will give in-depth and specific explanations on the philosophy and criteria of Global Geoparks, the procedures and concerns of evaluation and revalidation, as well as Geopark management, networking, activities, sustainable development, etc.
The training course also provides the opportunities for problem analysis, case studies, participants discussion, and targeted training on the concepts, criteria, application, evaluation, and revalidation of Global Geoparks.
